Madness in the Eyes

Learned about the late Stanley Kubrick this last week in class, and I think that watching Dr. Strangelove and 2001 this week brought me down a little. I really didn't enjoy either movie. I understand their importance within film and think 2001 is beautiful, but a slow killer. They're both dull because Kubrick didn't really want to make dramas. He was more interested in expressing the human condition from a more abstract perspective. I do have an honest interest in his work now though, and want to watch more of them... even if they kill me a little.

Theres this quote from him, that I think sums him up pretty well...
" Why should we bother to write a great symphony or make a living or even love one another when we are nothing but a momentary microbe on a dust mote whirling through unimaginable immensity of space— especially when we live in a universe created by chance and which may be snuffed out by chance?"
—Stanley Kubrick
