One of my favorites:
Lakshmi: This goddess is the bomb-diggity because she be the goddess of Beauty and Good Fortune.
She was born of the churning of the ocean.
How fancy eh?
If only Western religion could be so colorful with its myths. Below are some pictures I googled of her. They all look very similar. You can compare it to the Western depiction of Jesus. What, symbolically, is Lakshmi saying by standing in this pose? What is Jesus Christ trying to say?

i am also fascinated by eastern religions... and how they have woven their way into contemporary rituals. when i was in thailand this winter, they sold amulets of buddha in various postures for many different activities and situations - such as luck driving a motorcycle and luck winning the lottery!
colorful western religions... well, there's greek mythology. and now we have the stories that created both mormonism and scientology (the latter quite literally science fiction). not as elegant as hinduism, though... but i guess we still look for ways to explain the universe.
going back through your flickr account, i can see that there are aesthetic relationships between these goddess images and the images of fashion and other resources of color and texture. i am particularly interested in how you see the relationship between janine antoni, fashion and religion/myth.
